Our Doctors
Dr. Cayetano Barrera
Dr. Cayetano Barrera joined the practice on February 2, 1968, and is still working today. Dr. Barrera is originally from Mission, Texas and graduated from Mission High School. He graduated with a degree in Chemistry from Baylor University and received a doctorate degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1963. He did residency training in Modesto, California then joined the Army and served in Vietnam.
In addition to our medical practice, Dr. Barrera is very active in our community. Below are a few of the civic and medical organization that he participates in:

Dr. Barrera enjoys genealogy, ranching and photography. He is married, has three children and 9 grandchildren. Dr. Barrera resides in McAllen. He is a member of the Hidalgo-Starr Counties Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Homero Rivas
Dr. Homero Rivas joined the practice in August, 1971. Dr. Rivas is from Donna, Texas, and graduated from Donna High School. He graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of North Texas and received a doctorate degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1967. He did his residency at a public health hospital in New York and at an Indian Reservation in New Mexico.
Dr. Rivas teaches medical students from throughout Texas at our practice on a rotating basis. He is the most athletic doctor in our practice and he emphasizes his practice on sports injuries, diet and exercise, weight reduction and control programs and takes an anti-aging approach to medicine.
Dr. Rivas is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is a member of the Hidalgo-Starr Counties Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, and the Wilderness Medical Society. He has been awarded the Physicians Recognition Award by the American Medical Association for continuing his medical education at the rate required by the American Medical Association. He has been recognized by the Consumers' Research Council of America as one of "America's Top Family Doctors" annually since 2004.
Dr. Rivas enjoys all outdoor sports and is an active polo player and has been instrumental in bringing awareness of the sport to the Valley. He also enjoys horses, cycling, sailing and all types of outdoor and water sports. Dr. Rivas is married, has three children and three grandchildren. He resides in McAllen.
Dr. Daniel J. Guerra
Dr. Daniel J. Guerra joined our practice in 1983. He is originally from McAllen, Texas. Dr. Guerra graduated magna cum laude from Rice University in 1980 with a degree in Psychology. He received a doctorate degree from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio and did his residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth.
Shortly after returning to McAllen, Dr. Guerra was featured on House Calls-a medical segment on the ABC affiliate, KRGV-which ran for approximately 18 years. Dr. Guerra won several state awards for excellent coverage in medical topics.
Dr. Guerra is board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is a member of the Hidalgo-Starr Counties Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He also recently published an article in the Texas Academy of Family Physicians magazine regarding the damage that physician assistants are doing to the medical doctor and medical community in our state.
Dr. Guerra has always been active in scouting and is an Eagle Scout. He is an avid diver and snow skier and enjoys fishing, hunting and reading. He considers himself dedicated to his children and his profession. Dr. Guerra has a son and daughter and lives in McAllen.
Dr. Leonel Moreno
Dr. Leonel Moreno is our newest partner, having joined our practice in August, 1995. Dr. Moreno is from Reynosa, Mexico, and graduated first in his class at Autonomous University of Tamaulipas with a degree in Biological Sciences. He received his doctorate at Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon and was ranked in the top 1% of his class. Dr. Moreno did his residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Wichita Falls, specializing in family practice.
Dr. Moreno is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association and Hidalgo-Starr Counties Medical Society. He is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. He is certified to perform workers' compensation disability evaluations by the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. He has been continuously recognized by the American Medical Association with the Physicians Recognition Award for meeting his continuing education in the medical field. He has also been named as one of "America's Top Family Doctors" by the Consumers' Research Council of America consecutively since 2004.
Dr. Moreno is married and lives in Sharyland. You can usually spot his house during Christmas, since he has won the yard decorating contest for several years running!
